“ I was waiting for this dream” after all the pressure from fans and standing Ovations from her performances she is certain now that this is the time She was waiting for”.
Nomabotwe, an Afro jazz musician from New Brighton in PE, has finally decided to record and release a single for her fans after so many requests. Nomabotwe is a name taken from the Xhosa word for a palace. In short, Nomabotwe means a woman from the palace.
“All my songs came in my sleep after there had been an incidence that I carried to my sleep. Then a song comes up relating to what had happened. I can’t explain it, but I think it is something special that happens to me when I am given a song to write it. This special gift of taking reality to dreams is something that I would like to share with the world.
I write songs that cater for different audience who might be going through a lot in life. My songs are spiritual in that they uplift the soul, they are empowering, and they speak to character as they provide caution to wrong doers sometimes. My journey in music has made me to connect with other people who have other expeditions in life than mine and this has made me a better song writer.” – NomabotweMtimkulu
She has previously performed with musical giants like the late StompieMavi and JabuKhanyile as well is the living legend Ringo Madlingozi to mention but a few. It is not surprising that Nomabotwe draws inspiration from Miriam Makeba and BusiMhlongo, as a woman and a start who is ready to claim her spot in South Africa’s wall of fame. From a God fearing family Nomabotwe s career stated from Church at a very early age influenced by Gospel and Choral music. She was also part of a 2 member group called Maishawhilst still a member of Maisha she sang at the Presidents inauguration in Cape Town and blessed the President with an original compilation.
Her fans, family and friends have been asking for an album every time that she performs her songs, but she was not ready. She has now managed to write over ten songs that might as well be on her album.
She has successfully recorded 2songs “Qhakaza” and “Imbeko” which are now released for media and public. Nomabotwe now requires a bit of wind under her wings in order to be yet another success story coming from Nelson Mandela Bay. A story of triumph and passion, one with struggles and melody, a story of one claiming her palace and royalty in a world that needs more of her.
Due to the experience she gained from working in a group and backing up well known artists, she is filled with so much soul and that becomes very evident in her music. You can, however hear some gospel and choral traits in her offerings and that is why you can never box this soulful singer, this is also what gets her all these standing ovations.
Nomabotwe s new single “Qhakaza” is a song that inspires young women to nurture their beauty and never apologize for their God-given talents and gifts. This song has become an anthem amongst her fans and they always look forward to hearing more of her songs. Her humility has earned her the respect of many other Nelson Mandela Bay Artists and those from outside.
