LG Electronics South Africa (LG) in partnership with Orlando Pirates FC brought the beautiful game of soccer to fans for a day filled with mentorship and fun activities for aspiring youngsters. The festivity was held at Orlando Stadium.
LG and Orlando Pirates strive to deepen their commitment to soccer and youth development in the country. This is the first year of the initiative, which is based in the purpose of giving back time and effort to talented children that may someday be the next stars of Orlando Pirates FC or South Africa.
“Together with LG, it was a heart-warming occasion to give back to the community, including sporting, fun activities, donation of three LG 43” FHD TVs to Thabisang, Mzamo and Mbuyisa Makhubo Primary Schools, and an inspirational talk to 100 children from the Ikageng orphanage in the spirt that Tata Madiba inspired,” said Thandi Merafe, Media Officer, Orlando Pirates FC.
In South Africa, developing soccer and nurturing talent is the heartbeat to the country’s sporting vision that the Department of Sport and Recreation believe will transform the delivery of sport and recreation. This will be achieved by ensuring equitable access, development and excellence at all levels of participation that harnesses the socio-economic contributions which make a better life for all South Africans.
“Orlando Pirates inspires young South Africans who understand that achieving success requires hard work both on and off the field, preparation and complete enthusiasm,” said Antonio dos Santos, General Manager of Consumer Electronics, LG South Africa. “Our partnership with Orlando Pirates is a natural fit towards the country’s vision of unity and building a proudly South African nation, not only focused on the game but also its people.”
The Nelson Mandela legacy is entrenched in every South Africa that has made real life changing opportunities for our consumers, continued dos Santos.
Orlando Pirates FC is one of the best professional football clubs in South Africa. Colloquially known as the ‘the Buccaneers’, they have historically played a leading role in local football development and continue to do so through their training programmes and their youth development team.
“This year, LG has raised the bar on its commitment to create and foster valuable time with children who have a special place in the hearts of the players,” Bertrand adds.
“At the core of this legacy is harnessing the passion for children and teaching what it means to have an active lifestyle, be a champion, even if it’s just for a day in the same way the beloved Buccaneer fans support the team on the field when the pressure is on,” dos Santos concluded.
