Eastern Cricket Union congratulates Peter Vonya on his election as its youngest ever president at the Special General Meeting held on Monday.
The union sees this appointment as an important part of its aim to launch and embrace a new dawn. Mr. Vonya has been a strong anchor for the past three years within the Board of Directors at the union.
He brings strong strategic, governance and analytical skills to the position and has set the key strategic vision and plans for the union to mainly focus on ensuring that it is well poised for the planned professional 12-team affiliate first-class structure scheduled to get underway next year.
During his presidential speech he unveiled the new mission statement of the union that “The rose is our pride, we nurture it”.
“This theme will ensure we continue to nurture our rose (Eastern) as I believe that our strength as a union lies in our ability to fully utilize our diverse set of skills and our inclusive approach whilst we ensure that we foster a culture of high standards, delivery and accountability,” he said.
Mr. Vonya began his cricket journey at KwaThema cricket club where he became club chairman in 2012/2013 and quickly transitioned to the Board of Directors of Eastern where he displayed his ability to impact rapid change within a short space of time.
“I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation on being entrusted with such a huge responsibility. I am fully aware that new beginnings can be fraught with uncertainty, but they are also filled with incredible opportunities and endless possibilities,” Mr. Vonya emphasized.
The Special General Meeting also saw the appointment of Mr. Tota Tsotsotso as an Independent Director. He will add significant value with his financial and investment background.
