STANDARD BANK YOUNG ARTISTS AND ALL-STAR JAZZ BANDS

The long-awaited Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival is finally upon us and the countdown has begun. Having been hosted for 35 years to date, this year will unleash talent from all walks of life to celebrate this rich history and lineage of artistry.

Thirteen of the 21 musicians, who have been awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist (SBYA) award, will perform together on the Dinaledi Stage on Thursday 26 September in four exciting ensembles with the Standard Bank Youth Jazz Band, the Standard Bank National School Big Band and the all awaited Standard Bank All-Star Band comprising legends such as: Sibongile Khumalo, who scooped the first award in 1993 and this year’s recipient, Mandla Mlangeni.

Also expected on the festival weekend are South African Jazz illustrious names such as, Gloria Bosman, Shane Cooper, Victor Masondo, Shannon Mowday and Concord Nkabinde who will share the stage and once again reveal their impressive musical armoury, though this time in concert rather than leading their own bands.
