TKZee to perform at Huawei Joburg Day in the park

For the first time, the iconic Kwaito group-TKZee is set to headline the 3rdannual  JoburgDay in the Park on the fourth of May in Emmarentia Botanical Gardens.

Joburgers will relive their 90’s when the legendary TKZee performs their renowned hits from their album, Halloween which debuted 22 years ago.

Halloween became a massive commercial cross-over success and is one of the biggest selling albums of all-time, selling more than 200,000 copies worldwide. On Halloween’s 22nd anniversary the trio promises nothing but the best for Joburg Day picnickers.

Thando Makhunga, 947 station manager said the Halloween album represented a pivotal moment of music in South Africa.

“TKZee’s iconic 1999 album became the soundtrack for an era of freedom, diversity, creativity and unbridled possibilities for the ‘rainbow nation’. 22Years later the hits from the album evoke nostalgia for so many of our Generation X listeners. Kwaito was to that generation what Gqom will be for millennials – a new unique sound that represents the youth of that time.”

Huawei Joburg Day in the park has become a major showcase of excellence in the South African music industry and gives fans a chance to support and to experience with their music icons, in a live environment.

Akhram Mohammed,Huawei SA Chief Technology Officer said Huawei is global in terms of technology and they want to reach out, connect and bring people together across barriers through music.

“ Joburg Day in the park is a family event and we can connect more even with the younger generation. It is something we are proud of, we are proud to be working with 947, we thank 947 for this collaboration,” Mohammed added.

KabeloMabalene, TKZee member said they played an integral part in South African music history.

“When I realised that we had something special was after the shoot of ‘Dlalamapantsula’ music video. It further cemented that TKZee was a force to be reckoned with. I thinkHalloween is the soundtrack of the post 1994 movement, I believe TKZee was the group that captured the energy of what was going on at that time.”
